Heya! I’m Rachel.

I live a slow, coastal life in Mangonui, Northland, where my days revolve around making, growing, and arranging colour. You’ll usually find me in the garden tending flowers, wandering the bush, swimming in the ocean, or in the studio painting, stitching, or working with textiles.

At the heart of my practice is a love of creating vibrant spaces with colour. I’m a colourist and arranger, drawn to the way colour can shift the feeling of a space and bring energy and aliveness to everyday environments.

My paintings begin with energetic marks and splashes of paint across the canvas. From there I build layers, responding intuitively as colours, shapes, and lines begin to connect. I’m constantly scanning the surface, searching for the next relationship that brings the composition together. The final works are dense, playful worlds where colour moves, bounces, and interacts across the surface.

Working with colour has always been instinctive for me. Before becoming a full-time artist, I spent many years as a florist, developing a deep understanding of colour relationships and how arrangements can shape the atmosphere of a space.

Whether through painting, flowers, textiles, or objects, my work is ultimately about adorning spaces with colour and energy — creating pieces that feel joyful, alive, and full of movement.
